Fire On The Hearth
By La Belle Rouge

I would have loved you sincerely
not with half truths recited hesitantly
to keep a fragile truce another day
but deeply, passionately, completely

I would have surrounded you with poetry
and kissed your ink stained fingertips
in our summerhouse at tranquil twilight
while I read to you from heart volumes
in the gilded glow of a crystal oil lamp

gifting you my simple but eloquent verses
only to bask in flames of your dark eyes
and the look of love on your tanned face
your lips, My Love, I would oft purloin
and coerce them to become my love-slaves

I’d cleanse from your gloomy memory
filth of previous deception and betrayal
dry unceasing tears of want and alone
then lightly scent your flesh with rose oil
flowing from languorous caresses

in the winter of life, no ice laden wind
would chill your incomparable soul
while ivory arms and alabaster thighs
drew you into the sanctuary of home
where fire would forever burn on our hearth

Belle, now you had to go and do this. I was over romance for a while. This poem makes me want to find that special man and shower love and affection all over him. You are one heck of a passionate romantic writer. The song choice is perfect, one of my favorites.
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

LaBelle,
This is a romance reaching out to be fulfilled, the sense of longing is strong and the sense of never happening even more. Tender, touching and deeply felt.

Wow!! This is sensational, and the music which I recognise from that wonderful film 'Somewhere In Time'...on a theme of Paganini... is a perfect companion...Hugs, Diana

Hooooooome... ah yes! Give me a snow-bound log-cabin any day! That sense of sincere, loving homecoming reminds me greatly of one of my favourite cinematic scenes: from City Of Angels with Nick Cage and Meg Ryan... now you got me going: NC is switching on our Christmas Lights here in Bath UK on your Thanksgiving! :))))))))) Glory Be! He can light up my Christmas Tree anytime! Funnily enough, I was thinking of that scene this afternoon... A beautiful write of laying it bare in more ways than one: there is no doubting the unbridled passion from the deep-seat of emotions in this gorgeous bear-skin poem. As all your writes, just gorgeous, Belle. xx

Can one be allowed to dream the dream? Can the lonely dove find refuge inside the old oak's arms? Can promises rain wash away those deceptions and betrayal stains?
Can one be allowed to dream the dream?
