there was a time that her heart
beat fast when her lover was near
then came a time when simple trust
was replaced by sorrow and fear
years sailed by leaving in their wake
wisdom’s pearls resting on time’s sand
and walls were built on foundations
laid by the treachery of a man
there was a time, oh so long ago,
her heart kept love and hope alive
but now she waits on a lonely shore
beached mermaid striving to survive
her tears have fallen into wild waves
of a vast ocean dark and deep
and there will be no lover to weep
when the mermaid falls asleep
Belle: What a beautifully written poem..You know that mermaids are one of my favorite subjects..You have such a knack with this type of poetry, I can almost feel her yearning...
A very sad mermaid was she. It is weird I guess even for me, you see I fall in love with even your fictional characters. I actually wish I could take the the Lost mermaid into a passionate embrace. This was a great poem!
