Wedding Pledge
By La Belle Rouge
As sweet as the blue waters
flowing through the river of peace
As pure as the white flowers
that cover our hills in Spring
Strong like a high rocky slope
Gentle as a mother with her child
Warm as our lodge in Winter
When the fire dances free
and our spirits soar on high
into the clouds of white snow
Deep as the great sea far away
Dependable as a bark canoe that
takes us to other rivers and lands
Eternal as the lights of the heavens
So is my love for you, forever
My heart will sing only for you
I will not forsake our lodge for another
I will laugh with you, cry with you
We will hold each other always
through all storms and all joys
These things I pledge to you
and promise to the Great Spirit
On the day of our wedding
Promises that endure into the metaphysics of forever because they are formulated in the concrete understandings and experiences of the realities of now. The natural world is the biggest promise-keeper and if we take our lead from it, will show us how and why to endure. An holistic love is this, and dependable. Beautiful, Belle. xx

This is so much better than the cut and dried marriage vows some clergyman recites lacklusterly in my opinion. This somehow reminds me of the old song "Running Bear," written by The Big Bopper.
Belle, Beautiful Native American wedding poem, I miss writing my Karena series, just have no time these days. You have brought a spark back into my heart. Thank you for this.
