This Poem Is Dedicated To Georg Who Left Us A Year Ago With No Explanation Of Where He Went. Wherever You Are Dear Colonel, I Know You Are More Alive Than Ever, Surrounded With Peace And Joy And Above All, Enveloped In Love. You Will Forever Be Loved And Never Be Forgotten Sweet Friend.

Mortal Musing
By La Belle Rouge

Once upon sad cemetery path, where the dead are carried at last
To be hidden neath the earth until the great gettin up morn
I walked at sunset with my heavy heart pounding
At the sight of stone angels death’s garden to adorn
When a sharp curve in the path I was slowly rounding
And I heard a mournful ballad sounding, sounding in my ear
Oh that was nothing, I thought, there’s no one here!

When twilight silently fell anew with deep purple turpitude
Doleful notes carried over acres of crypt and gravestone
Alone with the dead I continued my morbid musing
Knowing of a certainty we are never really all alone
Words of solemn ballad my imagination intrusively seducing
Eerie mists were rising and the lyrics so surprising
Danger all semblance of sanity losing, standing in gloomy fear

And this was what the singer sang, a song of death a song of pain
It brought an icy chill to my spine, a burning tear to my eye
The song carried far on whirling winds of pensive propounding
“Do not become enemies with time for we all must die
All your days from death running, dreading, shunning
Your inevitable end, circling, rounding, drawing nigh
Each day embracing, not chasing broken dreams held dear”

“There is no escape from the mortality you fear; look around you here
Once alive and filled with aspirations, all now in the same situation
From burdens broken free from long labors resting, no more testing
Vast necropolises filled with sleepers built in every nation”
And as I wept I accepted the singer’s song, no life is ever overly long
In acceptance freedom overcomes, no regret when life is done
Killing me softly with his song the singer brought peace near

Recognition brings acceptance of even the hardest truths; denial keeps us in darkness. Your flawless lyric verses are timely and true, Belle, and bring us all at once into a shared place of knowing. Life and death are really one and the same mystery; everything depends on perspective. Neither time nor space can bankrupt real friendship as your reflective words here demonstrate. Georg remains deeply within each one of us who was blessed to know his cameraderie and friendship. He walks with us still. Thank you for this. Love always, Kate xx

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year now - July 15th - that I reeived my very last message from him. He is truly missed, and this is a wonderful remembrance.

IT SADDENS MY HEART GREATLY TO READ THIS...WHY? BECAUSE I'VE BEEN HOLDING ON...PRAYING. PERHAPS, I SAID TO MYSELF, HE CAN'T USE HIS HANDS, BUT...HE CAN STILL READ...AND SO, I CONTINUE TO SEND MESSAGES...TO HIM. TO ME THERE IS NO 'CLOSURE' WITHOUT A POSTING ON HIS SITE...A FAMILY MEMBER, OR A GOOD FRIEND WHO KNEW HIM WELL, EVEN AD...THAT SAYS HE IS NOW IN ETERNITY, GONE...FROM US. I AM JUST THIS WAY, BELLE, UNTIL I KNOW 'FOR SURE'...I JUST CAN'T 'GO THERE'. I KNOW IT'S BEEN A YEAR, BUT STILL I WAIT...FOR THE COLONEL'S RETURN.
THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE*HIS INSPIRATIONS
