It seems so easy,
words sliding onto the page
poetry flowing, like a broad river
bubbling like a mountain brook
Just the right descriptive phrase
or emotion provoking twist
Poetry almost writing itself
It comes as easily to the real poet
as taking the next breath
but poetry is precious and the poet
has paid a price for every word
No one writes convincingly of war
if they've never fought one or
experienced carnage and devastation
in their life as the result of war
To write of life, one must have lived
and had the heart broken enough
that the masks have fallen away and
forbidden thoughts can pour forth freely
Only lovers can pen the passion
heights and depths of love
and only the brokenhearted know
how to present the pain
So when you read a great poet
marveling at the gift or the talent
remember, there is no talent without truth
and the gift of life to the poet is pain
It costs something to write those
words that seem to flow like fine silk
and caress your mind and heart
Poetry is precious and each word penned
is purchased with time and suffering
Each word marks a scar on a poet's soul
That's why they never perish
these blood bought, expensive words
Wise beyond words. This is not poetry. This is a prescription for poets by the doctor, herself.
The image fits well as all of yours always do. I always try to dig down deep into the hurt for my next nonsense stupid funny poem. That way, I'm going to live as long as Bob Hope or George Burns and not as short as Edgar Allen Poe (ET). ;-)
Belle, you differentiate for me between passion and emoting -- passion is the poet's artistic expression with the "expensive words" bought and paid for through experiential events -- mere emoting on the other hand is the realm of a thespian molding emotions through method -- poetic forays are the measure of quills filled with real blood, cuts bruises euphoria depression and heartache for inking pages -- another work brimming with the beauty of the pragmatic heart -- I bid you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael
Well you are one of the best poets, so you have experienced pain very wrenching no doubt. You are courageous, a marvelous passionate poet!
We can't have perfect lives really, and the writing does help wonders.
It's a bugger that the pain stays, but even the deepest wounds can heal, leaving the freedom to speak out, the compassion and love without end.
Love,
Christine
My LaBelle,
You are so RIGHT!!!!
It does take living to write as well as we all do. Some how though, I believe that it was all meant to be the way it is. Hopefully, our words can help heal our readers.
