Roger seems to have set this bird completely free, Belle, in ways that we can all empathise with. As our soul and body age, perhaps we feel these confines like heavy shackles around our ankles as we consider how much we are bound by the loyalties forged in our greeness of youth but which we have largely outgrown. Then, of course, there are the constraints put upon us by external forces which are not of our own choosing. “free to grow up and free to grow old.” No truer statement has ever been told.

I'm happy to say that my puppy, Jazz, was free to run the entire length of the house, inside and out, and to sit at the gate for the little children to come to him so that he could bark viciously and snap at them like a free Pomeranian should.

It was only when he ventured out on the street where he dearly love to roam, that he was attacked by larger dogs three times and didn't survive the third. He was free to live and free to die. I wouldn't have it any other way.
