I've lived long and traveled far
Whispered prayers, wished on a star
I've seen children born, elders die
Learned to laugh, continued to cry
Probing for meaning, found life to be
Just a turning, twisting mystery
Why do we cry more than we laugh?
Who is beneficient on our behalf?
How to find joy in the midst of pain
Counting our losses as spiritual gain?
What to do when hearts are breaking
While giving more than we are taking?
The meaning of life we all must seek
In days of plenty, in dark times bleak
And if in fairness we survey our life
Above the pleasure, pain and strive
There prevails a mercy not to deny
That follows us 'til the day we die
Strive to give thanks from the heart
Bringing meaning to life from the start
And up until the day earthly life ends
Considering our creator as our friend
Not taken for granted good we've known
Giving gratitude in our hearts a home
You have a long list below of those who think you and your writing are special. Glad to be one of them.

Your poem is prevalent and food for thought, yes, life is
full of pleasure, pain and strive, but we have to look beyond
all of that and bless those he has put in our hearts.
A most meaningful poetic offering that flows very well due to the rhyme and rhythm that you have created, Belle. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and best wishes,
I look to God when I look for who is beneficent on my behalf. Love peace understanding and joy are seldom awaiting our arrival. We must carve them out of what we encounter. Where we see promise that attracts us with a passion to secure. Without the struggle and commitment the rewards are unworthy and do not last. You have stated what is perhaps the most important thing incumbent upon each of us my dearest Belle, "There prevails a mercy not to deny that follows us 'til the day we die, strive to give thanks from the heart". Thank you for sharing the somber side of life with the joys of life as we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday. May love and be always with you my dearest Belle. Jon Michael
This is a very special "Thankfulness," piece of writing, Susan. You took on many different emotions within the human spectrum. I agree that, for the most part, all humans must search for the "meaning of life." Thoroughly enjoyed this.
"Happy Thanksgiving" let's enjoy life each and every day!
May "Love and Blessings" come your way! JMD
To your heart and blessings given lovingly in this beautiful poem.
