Such Peace

I enter the forest
therefore entering
another world.

The worn path
beneath my feet
a comfort to my soles.

Expecting silence
I am surprised
at the way
the world comes alive
here in the shadows.

Leaves rustle
my eyes follow
a partridge
frightened it scurries
quickly away.

The raucous call
of the blue jay
loud, leads my eyes
to evergreen cover
above my head.

Chattering squirrels
laugh
they toss acorns
at my feet
shooing me away.

The air is cool
the scent of rotting
needles and leaves
wrinkle my nose.

Near me
a moss covered rock,
I sit and absorb
sights, sounds and scents.

Peace is here
no need to hurry
a chance to be me.

Me who
loves life
and all of
it's creatures.

I breath deeply
the scent of life
and even
of death.

Me, I see
all before me
an artists canvas,
each stroke
made with love.
