Lonely Little Ghost Boy borrowed his dad's time bender machine but now he's forgotten the code and is lost in time beyond recall

LONELY LITTLE GHOST BOY     r6

A Halloween Tale

Lyrics by John Klawitter, ASCAP

Copyright John Klawitter, 2016

T’ WAS HOB-GOBBLIN DARK/ WHEN HE ROSE FROM THE TOMB

AND FLEW THROUGH THE PARK/ BENEATH THE FULL MOON.

HE LIKES TO PRETEND/ HE’S A REAL PERSON BOY

UNDER THAT SHEET/ ALL GOOD HEARTED JOY

BUT IT’S JUST PRETEND…BECAUSE…

HE’S A LITTLE GHOST-BOY/ A SAD LONELY WISP

HE’S COVERED IN WHITE/ AND HE SPEAKS WITH A LISP.

Trickths or Treats

I want thom thweets

Candy Corn, Choclit,

Muck-ely goo!

Bubbles n’ gubbles n’

Yum malted moo!

BUT THE REAL KIDS KNOW/ AS REAL KIDS DO

HE’S ONLY A WHISPER/ OF MAGICAL DEW

ONLY A FIGMENT / ONLY A JOKE

ONLY A MEMORY AND/ NOTHING BUT SMOKE.

Trickths or Treats!

I want thom thweets!

Peanut Bar, thuger star

Nanna snaps, too!

Gummies n’ jummies

Lip thmakin’ ka-boo!

GHOSTS, YOU MAY KNOW/ CAN TRAVEL THROUGH TIME

FROM HORSEBACK TO ROCKETS/ THEY TIME-TRAVEL FINE

BUT GHOST BOY HAS LOST/ HIS MOM AND HIS DAD

THIS IS WHAT MAKES HIM/ SO VERY SAD

HE CAN’T REMEMBER/ THE NUMBERS, YOU SEE

FOR GHOST-BOY CAN’T COUNT/ PAST NUMBER THREE

HE SHOULD NOT HAVE PLAYED IN/ DAD’S BENDER MACHINE

HE PUSHED THE WRONG BUTTON/AND CHANGED THE WHOLE SCENE.

HE’S TRAVELLED ALONE/ THE FIRST TIME THIS FALL

LOST IN THE YEARS/ BEYOND ALL RECALL

THERE MUST BE SOME REASON/THERE MUST BE SOME RHYME

HE HAS A BAD FEELING/ IT’S ALL ABOUT TIME.

HE’S SEEN DINOSAURS BITE /AND FUTURE THINGS TOO

BUT NOW HE’S STUCK HERE/ WITH ME AND WITH YOU

Trickths or Treats

I want thom thweets

Mumbly moo

Bumbly boo

Hickery thnickery

Thnack doodle doo.

YOUNG GHOSTS ARE WARY/ OF FLUTTERY BATS

OF NIGHT THINGS TOO SCARY/ OF DREADFUL BLACK CATS

WHO KNOWS WHOOOO/ OLD OWL IS CHIDING?

OR BEHIND THAT STREET LAMP/ WHAT MONSTERS ARE HIDING?

Trickths or Treats

I want thom thweets

Mellow marsh, hot bit

Tooth knockers, too!

Mumzops of gumdrops

An’ lick-rish cream chew!

OH NO, OH NO!/ WHERE CAN A GHOST GO?

MONSTERS SURROUND HIM/ AND CHILLY WINDS BLOW!

BAD THINGS DRAW NEARER/THE SHIVERS THEY SEND

HE’S FEELING QUITE FEARFUL/ NOW HERE COMES THE END!

HO, HO! THEY’RE JUST BUDDIES/ WHO GIVE HIM A TRICK

AND PLENTY OF CHOCLIT AND LICRISH TO LICK!

REAL MONSTERS, REAL VAMPIRES/ REAL WITCHES, REAL CAT

MAGIC-LY POPPED FROM/ SOME BUBBLY GREEN VAT.

NO REASON FOR WORRY/ NO CAUSE FOR FRIGHT

THEY CAME FOR SOME CANDY/ THIS MAGICAL NIGHT

SEE, WITCHES LIKE CHOCLIT/ AND RIDING THEIR BROOM

AND GHOSTS LOVE SKY-RIDING/ ABOVE THE FULL MOON.

AND ON THAT NIGHT/ THAT NIGHT OF ALL OTHERS

THEY GATHER IN BUNCHES/ PLAY GAMES WITH THEIR BROTHERS

THEY TELL SCARY STORIES/ AND VISIT THE DEAD

YES, SOME ARE QUITE GORY/ AND ONE LOST HIS HEAD.

BUT IT’S ALL IN GOOD FUN AND/ THE PARTY’S JUST RIGHT

FOR THE DANCING IS MAGIC / AND LASTS THROUGH THE NIGHT.

HE REMEMBERS THE NUMBERS/ FOUR, FIVE AND SIX

EASY AS WONDER/ OR PICK UP STICKS

SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN/ COME BACK TO HIM THEN

NO LONGER ALONE/ HE KNOWS THE WAY HOME!

DAWN COMES AND GHOST BOY/ MUST TRAVEL THROUGH TIME

IT’S HIS BEST TRICK AND/ NOT REALLY A CRIME

HE CLIMBS IN TIME BENDER/ HE COUNTS OUT HIS-FLIGHT

BUT HE’S SURE TO BE BACK/ NEXT HALLOWEEN NIGHT.

NEXT HALLOWEEN NIGHT, NEXT HALLOWEEN NIGHT

HE’S SURE TO BE BACK/ NEXT HALLOWEEN NIGHT.

Trickths or Treats

I want thom thweets

Carmel crisp, Choclit

Maple jams, too

Thappy fresh jollies

An’ nops of blue boo!

AND ONE LAST WHISPER AS HE FLIES OFF THROUGH TIME…

Boo to you, boo to you!

Boo!

Boo!

Booooo!

I don't know why others aren't commenting. This is a wonderful poem that would be great read to kids on Halloween night. Some great images and rhymes. Could be a contest winner.

I enjoyed the good rhyming and rhythm in this poem, it flows so well when being read. A great tale as well.
