wounded your spirit most deeply

destroyed your fragile self esteem
and then denied your right to be
a sexual being, a sensual woman
he who should have worshipped
the flames of aphrodite within you
defamed you, chained to a winter
of cold bed and half dead kisses
the gardener who should have
diligently cultivated your petals
plowed under your tender blooms
you are too powerful to lie there
under the plowed earth, dormant
your spirit rises above icy winter
to embrace the nuances of spring
you are like persophone arisen
from the underworld, bringing life
and warmth into this man’s world
