So many of you beautiful ladies at AD have been my readers and encouragers, even when I am absent for long periods of time. I am writing a collection of poems that are dedicated to you. These are my gifts to you, not only for your support but in tribute to the unique and wonderful woman each of your are. This one is for Lady Christine Tsen
ART IN THE AFTERNOON
it was one of those afternoon charity events
strangely i’d always enjoyed chamber music
the string quartet began to play, Bach or
whatever, i never cared about the name or
the composer, i just got lost in the music
floated away on it to other fair kingdoms
when i opened my eyes, there she was
a pale haired angel holding a cello between
shapely legs, a faint smile graced her lips
her features were soft, delicate, symmetrical
nimble fingers handled the strings as though
the cello was her servant, obliged to obey
closing my eyes again, opening my thoughts
on a ballroom where i held her hand in mine
and we floated through all the formal steps
like two dreamers who had done this before
her eyes were pools of innocent vulnerability
her fragrance a blend of white lilies and woman
i was overcome with desire to spend the day
composing passion’s music in the bed chamber
when i opened my eyes in the present again
she smiled at me, she was a true work of art
and the enormous cello and i were her servants
