World on a knife-edge, fires rage everywhere,

Bodies hang from trees, spilt blood over there,

Apocalypse now, that’s ipso facto.

Limbs torn from bodies, guts spilled on the ground

Cruelty, murder, and mayhem abound…

…Let us now dance the Apocalypso…

Polluted rivers, polluted meadows,

Dying trees and shrubs, we live in shadows,

We lost our way a long-long time ago.

Why should we worry what happens to Earth?

Let’s gobble the grub, put fat on the girth…

…Let us now dance the Apocalypso…

Plague in a dustbowl, women, children raped,

Well documented and videotaped.

Over burning corpses thick smoke billow.

Waiting for Messiah to come again?

Yes! And while we wait let us drink champagne…

…Let us now dance the Apocalypso…

See the child burned badly, crying in pain?…

…Let’s carve the turkey, pray and eat again.

Turn the telly off, on the audio,

Celebrate New Year; let us be merry,

Let’s forget about this absurdity…

…Let us just dance the Apocalypso…

Out on the main square slowly throng the crowd,

Skeletons dressed up in funeral shroud,

Faceless, grim skulls with hellish fire aglow,

Look skyward, the Messiah to await

- Chanting ‘bout hell on earth they advocate -

Begin dancing the Apocalypso…

I dedicate this poem to my good friend Gábor Renner.

Gábor sends me articles from time to time to make me think.

He acts as my Jiminy Cricket – my conscience – to prod me on to the straight and narrow.

I am much indebted to him.

It was an article that Gábor sent to me recently that made me think and inspired me to write the poem above.

The article, which is in fact the manuscript of an acceptance speech for a prize, given to a prominent US journalist for service to environmental protection, points out a more sinister alliance between a substantial number of “Heavies” – members of the Senate, Congress and the political establishment of the current US Administration – and the extreme fundamentalist Christian Churches and their followers, an electorate numbering approx. one third of the entire US electorate, according to a recent Gallup Poll survey.

This alliance firmly believes in the absolute truth of the Biblical prophesies relating to the Apocalypse, the second coming of the Messiah, saving all the “true believers” only and condemning the rest of humanity to death and eternal damnation.

I checked out some of the websites produced by these “believers” by running a search at Google on the “Rapture Index”. (Rupture is their description of the “conditions to come” in order for them to enter Heaven.)

In their blind faith they believe it is their duty and calling to facilitate and bring forth the “Final Battle of Armageddon” and the return of the Messiah for the sake of their own salvation.

I give it to you all to think carefully and to decide what the difference is between this group of fanatics and the others who believe that by blowing themselves up in order to kill the “infidels” it would secure them a place in Paradise.

Before you condemn your “Enemy” look into the eyes of your “Friends” and into your own hearts too.

"Dancing the Apocalypso" has delivered the message.

It is a privilege to have eyes to read the contents of this Scroll - named "Dancing the Apocalyoso" on this last day of the year in all Provinces of The Greek-Roman Empire.

All vassals and citizens of first to fifth class will toast to “HAPPINESS, HEALTH AND PROSPERITY… Peace?

PEACE, Please PACIFY – The Peace’s Lords – and The MANUFACTURERS OF “WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION”, and SHOW Them the WAY to JUSTICE!

Healthy Blissful Day, Poet!

My dear friend Peter!

What a poem - "'n Wucht!" (a powerful impact!) As for the artist ...

I'm not worthy of this dedication, Peter. As for Jiminy Crickets, I sense you are the one for all who can read your works, quasi: "Who have eyes, may see - who have ears, may hear!"

Have a healthy and prosperous 2005 - with lots of butter and honey on your daily bread.

Love

Gabor

Peter, love, this hits the solar plexus like many other 'tributes' have not in my soul. Any one who has not gone through the actual dance of "the Apocalypso", can't begin to comprehend the pain in your tuneful words. We mourn, and weep, we profer solutions of acrimony and ineptness, but we don't know the core pain.

But, to me, you show how life can be lived, despite memories of hate and asinineness. :) I smile to know you have touched me and others, Peter, it feels good to be acknowledged, to be seen and loved for self, not because of self.

Yours, in eternity,
Erin Elizabeth

Well the poem is actually factual in many ways. We all have a choice on what it is we beleive. I beleive that there will be a second coming and as for others that is their choice. But do I want others condemned no I don't. You have written a poem that is really appropiate for our times.
