An allegorical tale of the Rose and the Snail.

Poem Artwork

On far away, solid, rock covered peak,

Around which millions of falling stars streak,

Stood an exquisite rose.

Its soft petals bathed in sunshine and dew

Much adoring sighs from heaven it drew

In rhyming verse and prose.

An old snail, admiring its freshness n’ hue,

Across its petals slithered and with due

Respect it departed.

The rose felt angered and yelled: "Oh how vile

That a rose an ugly snail can defile!"

N' with hurt pride it smarted.

Returned the snail, humbly to kiss the ground,

The spot from whence such beauty could abound

N’ with shattered heart it wailed.

The rose smiled. With grateful heart, but broken shell,

The snail - feeling like one redeemed from hell -

Hangs on a thorn, impaled.

A lesson in narscism I would think...Beware the beauty of a rose, for beneath its petal a thorn has risen and impaled its lover on her stately stem, only to open her heart and close yet again. Beautiful write, Peter!

A mysterious symbolistical composition.
"The Rose and the Snail" shines under the light of philosophical-
poetic thoughts.

Interesting. I can see how this applies to many other instances in life. It is pretty sad really. How we try to mold and shape the world to perserve it's beauty. Or to suit our needs. Will we ever learn to leave things alone? ~ Sara
