“For never was a story of more woe
than this of Juliet and her Romeo.”
(William Shakespeare.)
Two old souls, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
Stand under sweet Juliet’s balcony,
Musing ‘bout past times when they both were teen.
The woman asks: “Dear, do you remember?”
And the man replies: “Yes, indeed I do.”
Her eyes turn moist, her expression tender,
As she turns and softly begins to coo:
“Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Do you remember my most cherished dream?”
And his reply comes like a soft echo:
“Hey old girl, do you fancy an ice-cream?”

Footnote:
This verse was inspired by an overheard conversation and a fortuitous
“sneak” photo taken on a recent visit to Verona.
The location - “Casa di Giulietta” - with the now famous balcony
is more of a tourist attraction, rather than the proven historical location of
the events described in Shakespeare’s legend of Romeo and Juliet.
None the less for the avid romantics it is a recommended place to visit…
…preferably without an ice cream…
