The night was long and drawing to an end,
The orchestra tuned up for the last waltz.
I knew, this was not the time to pretend
That this would turn into bittersweet schmaltz.
I reached out for your hand, wanted to ask
You to dance this last waltz slowly with me,
But He appeared, wearing a hood and mask,
N’ you turned and waltzed with him obligingly.
I felt an ice-cold hand gripping my heart,
I wanted to stop you, watching with dread;
I did not wish the two of us to part,
Wanted to scream, but in a daze instead,
Watched with sinking heart and abated breath,
As you danced that waltz on the arms of Death.

(((HUGS))) And much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :( >tears! <
(((HUGS))) love and prayers - such sadness in these lines of loss - I'm so sorry -
Karla. :(
I could feel the sadness in your words. It is hard to watch someone we long to be with or hold toss us aside like an old pair of shoes. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, so maybe there's a greater plan.
Thanks for this very well written and equally descriptive poem.

This is a sad piece indeed, but it is a great composition... So if a sad moment can give emotions to be poemized... let us praise that moment for "The Last Waltz - Sonnet" is masterpiece.
Thank You for sharing "The Last Waltz - Sonnet".
