Mark my many colored footprints
remember for me the steps taken
to reach the twisted rope I cling to
attached to those splitting threads of you
cutting my hands with the push and pull
tipped on the fingers with bits of blue
scattered by midnight and its sighs
across the white of our thin skins
where I look for you in the curve
of the bellybutton you never got to see
shards of passed visions
rise with the sun and last
until the moon speaks eloquence
gentle breezes of what it means
to romance your celestial body
only the trees pull me up again
with their autumnal shouts of crimson
and the promises of citrine dreams
when climbing is required
whether knees or pride be skinned
hope held up on the fragile sticks of fate
asked so much to hold all the weight of us
but we ask when treasured moments are few
and love impossible skirts the edge of promises
gathering us close in the words shared silent
Ron
