Summer hangs over us
humid in restless bones
the color of swollen moons
howling dogs teeter further
towards their own wild past
both join now as if memory
no longer serves them.
Ah, but sunsets chime the bells
of once forgotten songs
nature, unbound by man
calling forth the creation
of what space released
when all humans fumbled
for the keys to peace.
Docked there side by side
as well-loved friends relied
upon the presence of hope
though rough waters push
beneath them when led astray
bound by a single twisted rope
of serenity till summer’s end.
