This is based on a Connie Winters painting again, and once again, I could not find the painting online, so am adding a similiar one here with the same tray!

Poem Artwork

she remembered how he loved the shape of pears

their dull green sweetness coating his tongue

and when her pressed mouth was sealed full with him

strange desires grew like vines for such new sensations

she watched as his large awkward fingertips touched

upon the waiting fullness of the delectable grapes

and how their thin skin between them fast reacted

to the tender rub of the hard up against them

in dark night hours he longed to taste it all again

the delight of the half-light and strawberries and cream

that slow rise and fall again to reach his open mouth

remnants of that cream leaving a sheen on his lips

over breakfast and morning papers he remembered

how in that crumple-sheeted bed she tasted the apple's flesh

her thin fingers sliding up and down the reddened skin

eyes closed as she savored the juices on the tip of her tongue

they always kept that bowl full of the fruits they once savored

with hands full of moonlight and their midnight secrets of pain

and late at night when those cravings came alive once again

they would meet in the kitchen by the light of that golden tray

to a feast that quells a hunger left hanging on a dream

Michelle, I think that this has got to be one of the most sensual poems I have ever read. Beautiful work.

Whoa! Michelle! Quite a play on words here. Gotta love it. Very well constructed no matter where your mind is when you read it.
