This poem was inspired by a photo by probably my favorite photographer ever and of many others as well, Ansel Adams. The photo is entitled ICICLES AT THE AHWAHNEE HOTEL, WINTER, YOSEMITE, c. 1927

It is magical when love never leaves but visits on other planes, as the angels know, and as I thought while writing this poem in bed last night, dreaming such magic was real :) A blessed New Year to you all xxx

Poem Artwork

They left it there with icicles and shame

an aching love they struggled to rename

with nothing but the sound of snow to blame

and winter's penchant for a tortured game

Barren in the places he no longer went

on broken wings she made her swift descent

flying too close to the ground this angel sent

among the words she knew they both had meant

Now rushing out to nothing but the night

their words had tossed themselves off land mid-flight

into the frozen edge of winter's white

mad frost to bite lost passion's sweet delight

But they left it there with icicles and pain

a may-december love they struggled to explain

with nothing but two broken hearts to gain

owing winter's penchant for love's long lost remains

Ansel Adams is one of my favorites, too--a testimony that black and white is its own art form. You relate it very well to your own experience and perceptions, and to the feelings of lost love. Very well done........Jerry

Ouch! That last stanza hit home... story of my own book.
(She was older than I. And that's all we gained. A beautiful story, a life of pain.)

Appears to be a bit autobiographical. Icicles on tricycles, mittens on kittens, rosy cheeked girls are the one who smittens.

Dear Michelle, your poem seems so real, and not as if from any photography. You have a great talent to describe what you see. Well done. Love Emile
