There’s a scent on the air

Carried by wicker cane ceiling fans

Working its way upstairs

Eye opener for sure.

Get you up like never before.

Something that gets into your soul.

Not talking ‘bout any ‘ole plate of food.

I’m talking ‘bout fresh cut greens

From out back of the house.

Ham glazed in a roasting pan.

Wild rice on the side, how nice!

Black eyed peas soaked in pot liquor,

Dash some of that ham right in,

Give it some onion, garlic and time.

Muffin pan gleaming golden with

Corn bread delight,

Puffy mouthwatering mounds

Waiting for their first pats

Of butter.

The tinging ice in the crystal pitcher-

house wine of the South -

Ready and waiting to be served.

Running down the stairs,

Take a look at the Sunday Dinner

Waiting on a plate.
