on the other side of the world you must awaken in joy state of grace that comes so easy for you. here it’s hard to wipe sleep from eyes muster all it takes to pretend pain condemnation’s toll is not hard for me. last night we danced and you held me as I cried tears I’ve been holding until tide of joy rolled in for us both. this morning I know: it’s just a dream I practice smiling in mirror until desert ache cracks my heart, my face. yesterday I believed your words your insistence that hope prevails on darkest of days rays of love break through. tomorrow you will understand my inexplicable failure to thrive. See how storm, love, swallowed me whole? from inside of love one has no choice but to embrace suffering look for openings but die if one must. from outside of love there is no question – success demands closing bend not to love’s folly live like kings and laugh.
