If I could be anybody,
Einstein I would be
and dance at ocean’s edge
with one pants’ leg rolled up,
mischievous smile written on my face,
relativity on my mind.

If I could be anybody,
Amelia they would call me:
a woman pioneer cutting new paths
through uncharted skies,
getting lost because I wanted to,
a legend in my time.

If I could be anybody,
Monk Merton I might become:
interpreter of experience,
seeker of spiritual truth, I’d stroll
in garden of solitude, explore
faith both strong and sublime.

If I could be anybody,
A saner Van Gogh or Gaugin perhaps
would give me back my art –
those strokes from a master’s brush
to color a canvas, shelter
a weary heart and mind.
