You smile
from renegade moon
that releases my resistance.
Orb sinks low in midnight sky,
forever sea of cloud and calm.
“Not a joiner”—
in this we two were alike:
unmitigated, our distaste
for societal standards,
b.s., and living fiction.
Tonight
you sing with angelic host,
chorus of magnificence. You,
who did not like to sing,
create healing harmony.
I reach for you
from ground of sacred soil
that pulls me down, hurls me back
with centrifugal force to
earth’s cursed jurisdiction.
Up there,
you lead the angels
it takes to watch over me.
Sweet comfort cradles me close,
my tear-stained cheek in your palm.
"'Night
now, girl. Just be where you are."
You whisper through sweet Georgia
pines. I look up, smile back at you,
my silly man in the moon.
