Today the curtain closed, final
act upon this familiar stage.
You know the actor’s sorrow in
unwelcome ending of an age.
While said stage feels cold and lonely
until you step out in the street,
out there somewhere waits your next role.
I’d really like a front row seat.
So say goodbye and mourn this loss.
In time see not play’s dark ending
but growth and opportunity—
just another bright beginning.
Fare thee well, player. Find your place
on life’s ubiquitous stage. Quell
your doubts; an audience awaits—
Encore! Now my friend, fare thee well.

For a friend who left a long-held job. This came out more like greeting card verse than like most of my poems, but I'm posting anyway. -Dawn
