Poem Artwork

Excitement spread when the old year ended
new hopes and dreams of the big ‘oh eight’,
the past brushed off – my angst I surrendered
convinced the New Year would be ornate.

Bright eyed I anticipated my future
couldn’t wait for good fortune to begin
just knowing oh eight would be super-doper
What a fool! - I look back and now I can grin.

Why – did I think fortuity would strike?
Why – did I think luck should come along?
my fate didn’t change – it returned just to bite
I relied on the New Year - oh boy was I wrong.

I burdened the New Year to bring serenity
expected it to keep my demons away
but to better life is my own responsibility
to arrange my cards as they’d been dealt to play.

Euphoria’s left as I realize quickly
nothing has altered, it just gained of age.
I look at my past and it’s telling me frankly
a New Year is just another calendar page.

Although this write is well done and you capture your topic as it should be...but I come away with this feeling that I want to console and encourage the subject for nothing is ever "just another page"...each is fresh and new and besides too early in "08" to be disenchated. LOL Think you just need a dose of spring snuggles.

LOL, so true, and we'll be just as all dopey next year..
We all have Pooh thoughts and hopes, acting like the bouncey excited Tigger, within a week, we become Eyore once more...

Basically and truthfully it is just that, Rebecca, but it is what is in your heart, in your soul, in your psyche which determine what the so-called new year will bring . . . You CANNOT sit back and wait for those things you have wished for to come to you, hat in hand . . . You must kick down some doors and close others . . . Within those acts you will find what you wished for . . .

Excellent write Becca
Yes you said it another day flying in the wind
to meet the past, yet the future still looks bleek
Until it becomes the "now"
Peace & love be with you
