Shipwrecked Sailor’s Song

Virtual messages in a bottle

Everyday tossing them into an empty sea

People glance at them and toss them back

[so I hear – so I believe]
On my “Lonely Island Far Away at Sea”

There may be only who can decipher my song

And has the will to come and rescue me

{I would gladly sail to you, but no doubt at all

    that you are surely on a “Farther Shore”}

Let’s hope it’s still found in our present ocean,

This emptiness is more than spiritual and

I can barely stand here much more

I have dreamed of substance physical

 (parched of pools of emotion)

I would row out to you but there

Is nothing else I have “To Build a Boat”

More than that which I have crafted so far

What was that line I thought of as I stand

Searching an empty horizon beyond the final bar?

Sometimes I hear a faintly calling Siren Song

I imagine it hails from a ghostly ship

Since I sent out a signal, It’s been far too long

My own dying call, my August Ocean Overture

Echoes emptily across a darkening sunset pall.

Heard by few, perhaps some landlocked lubbers

In distant ports, I see no ships breaking masts above

this misty Blue-line that recedes my sinking love.

Shipwrecked upon a Savage Shore –

Parched lips, gnawing stomach, cracked sores.

I click through my endless days searching

For a line of dead reckoning that I can sail

“Across a Sea of Madness”

Day after day seeking for some sign,

A driftwood shard of hope to grasp

promises with each mirage-like ripple

On a Torrid-calm, tropic sea to

Raise the faintest pulse; while I

“Almost Happy” in expectation consider,
One last crazy plan to sail

“Westward, westward into the sun” (I say)

“Almost Home, Home Again” (I dream)

Unshaved, in torn jeans, and shirt of “holy stain”

I stand wrecked upon this deserted shore searching,

But no—ahead there is…
[Above a lone gull wails of my SeaDrift]

…only the expanse of an empty, forbidding Salty-Sea.

And like my “Last Renaissance Man” at last dying
          Upon his twilight Bahaman beach,

In that final chapter, where me and my character

Are shipwrecked and finally out of reach.

You drift like wood through your songs, and I faintly hear the echoes of their strains. It's all beautiful music to me... the anthem song to all your songs... let it play! Let it play... --Charlie

Wonderful photograph! An age adrift that has been etched into the memory and your solemn words of spirit encounters many thoughts, beautifully and artfully written....

Be always safe,

Serenity and reclusive at the same time, Michael...Shipwrecked Sailor portrays an SOS message in a bottle bringing Sting and the Police to mind...I like the pristine idea of being shipwrecked on a deserted island as a philosophical mapping of the mind in where one can concentrate on wisdom and what is tangible...and then perhaps one day, coming upon friendly shores to educate the populace of the idea of remoteness which is needed to bring the tribes together in learning diversity and co-existing with one another...be well, Michael...

Love,
Sage
