spending a long weekend in the trees -lots of wildlife and bike trails

Poem Artwork

as i cruise by on a bicycle path
he appears middle aged, receding hairline, sitting on a deck
engaged in a cell phone conversation, updating his office
on his latest sales contact

i change into lower gear and tense my thighs to climb
the upward slope into the young Pondarosa Pines
a doe and two fawn are nibbling berries in the Oregon Grape

a coast through a curve and follow the river
quiet today, no fishermen or kayaks
i hear geese overhead sounding their migration
and mallards quack on the water

the path curves east across a vast meadow
larks work through the grasses while a red tail hawk
keeps watch from the top of a spruce

beyond the meadow lays the airstrip
i watch a leer jet take off
and imagine the lifestyle of the leisure class
as I take a left at the runways end and cross
the greens of the 9th hole
perfectly manicured grass surrounds me
i dodge a golf cart that has dumped a bag of clubs

ahead the mansions of the country club elite
most of them look empty, perhaps they are 2nd homes
or tax write offs for those business suits
i see opulence and patio furniture
gracing multi-leveled hardscapes

all i hear is the sound of my derailer
as i back pedal then shift into higher gear
the path decends to the south
I take the loop north
past the swimming pools and water slides
only a few moms with little ones
have ventured in today

the tennis courts are empty
and the driving range is full
no one in the playground
i guess they are back to school
“left” i sound and pass a woman
walking her overweight dog
and nearby a chipmunk stands on top of a rock
guarding his section of forest

i’m feeling the saddle and turn for home
this afternoon ride was plenty to roam

I love this. I can relate completely. I ride my bike everyday around the mountain where I live. The round trip is only about ten miles but getting back up to my home is great exercise. One sees and hears and smells a lot on a bicycle. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience, Debby. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Wow Debby,
You surely can see a lot from a bicycle. You are really intuned with your surroundings. That is good. Many people are so self absorbed they don't even notice. Thumbs up. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the reviews. I appreciate you taking the time to read my works. I have been doing other things and letting my writing lag. I am getting back into the swing of it.
Take care.
Blessings,
Judith

I love this saddle-view, Debby, and the picture looks just like the forests which fringe the coast by me here in Dorset. Love the motion-picture of life you present us with here, all intermingling and connected through the wheels of your mind and poet's eye. :)) xx

A mile said Jersey? I will be dreaming of my potato-couch after a couple yards, but I enjoy reading about those brave people that have legs to eat a handful of miles and tell me how it is out there.
Thanks for the trip!

Men! LOL I guess Ed wouldn't make it afetr all. LOL This is great Debby. The scenery is just eye watering as it is so very vivid. Like Ed said I felt as though I was right there with you, and I would actually make it through the entire ride. LOL Thak you for sharing Debby, this is wonderful.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie
