An observation from a morning stroll in the park on one autumn day...

Poem Artwork

An old woman is walking a little puppy in the park. The little puppy is filled with energy. It walks, it runs, it jumps gleefully, dragging the old woman along, just enjoying the spring season of its life.

When tired, the old woman and the little puppy sit down to rest on the park bench, taking note of every passerby.

When a big dog passes by, the little puppy leaps off the bench, running towards the big dog, barking and yelping like a maniac, seemingly unaware of its size against the giant. The little puppy is brave, unaware of any dangers and challenges in this world.

An autumn leaf falls onto the old woman's face. Startled, the old woman takes it into her hands. She notices the leaf is still in its prime state even though its colour has changed to yellow and brown. She crushes it in her hand, wrinkling it, much like the woman's aging skin. Soon it will enter the winter season of its life.

But the old woman is not ashamed of her wrinkles - for they have lived a lifetime of triumphs to be where they are today. She remembers she must go home now. It's her grandson, little Johnny's birthday, and she will bake him a big chocolate birthday cake!... And his friends will arrive soon. It will be an afternoon of fun and games, and it is this, and life's other little pleasures, prove there is no time for this grandma to feel old. She will live her life to its fullest!

You got that right, Sandie! She still has much to do along with walking the pup. I enjoyed this tremendously!

Love ya!

Your story reminds me of my Maltese who loves to sit in the park and bark at the big dogs. Good times.

A nice little story poem that we could all relate to. I'm worried that the old woman didn't have a way to protect the puppy from the big dog and even may have left the little puppy there in the park as she headed home.

Good reflection upon the youth of the puppy and the age of the woman. That in life, we all have a role and must carry on in chores and pleasure.
