The gentle wind brings along the bridle path
The wondrous sound of a child’s soft laugh
A second soon joins as new discoveries are made
For off the track they’ve no doubt strayed
I look at the mother whom our children share
The only woman for whom I’ll ever care
The children’s laughter reflected in her face
Itself a perfect icon for beauty and grace
Once again I feel my heart begin to stir
With the excess of love I feel for her
She looks at me, her sweet smile so wide
I couldn’t resist however hard I’d tried
She sees in my eyes each and every thought
And gives me the kiss she knows I sought
All this and not even a single word spoke
I must be the world’s luckiest bloke
I feel that to everyone I should cry
‘I love my wife and it’s clear to see why’

I wrote this some years ago when I was still married. I recently found it with some papers and read it again. It still hurts to be reminded what I lost

A beautiful poem, and I can feel much of where you are. I think we are all forever changed when life leads to love lost and other pain, but we have a choice every day with what we do with that changed person we've become. Good luck and a Happy New Year!

I was so happy to read such beautiful words. I hope you can read them again one day the way you wrote them. It's true that time heals all things, if we let it.
