Yesterday morning, my daughters and I took an early morning walk...it was also my fifty-fifth birthday...I couldn't have asked for a better day...for so many reasons.
Countless tiny butterflies flit
from wild flower to wild flower.
She bends to capture one, a brilliant
blue in color, and smiles as she feels its
graceful wings flutter against her skin.
Opening her hands to set it free,
it lingers awhile, slowly traveling across
her wrist and forearm, before flying away
and settling on a daisy close to her feet.
Once again she stoops to embrace it, and
it is almost as though it waits for her touch.
Yet, several seconds later, a worrisome look
crosses her face…she feels no movement and
fears that perhaps she has damaged its wings.
After unlocking her hands, she beams, almost as
luminous as the mid-day sun, for the vibrant blue
butterfly takes flight and then comes to rest on her
big sister’s shoulder.
And now, it is my turn to smile as I realize that the
sparkle of life never dies. It lives on...in lazy summer
mornings, in my children’s laughter and in the flutter
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND ENCHANTING PICTURE YOU'VE PAINTED...A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF HOW NATURE RESPONDS TO TENDERNESS AND LOVE AND YES, HOW THE SPARKLE OF LIFE AND CARING NEVER DIES. WHAT A MARVELOUS 'BIRTHDAY PRESENT' TO YOU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAWN!!! AND MAY YOU CONTINUE TO BE BLESSED WITH THE GIFT OF WONDERFUL...'SUMMER MORNINGS'. THANK FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS,

Wonderful poem concerning butterflies and birthdays. Happy 50th, if you are like me you celebrate all month. This way you can have several special birthday weekends to celebrate.
How beautiful is this. Somehow it reminds me of the book, Eat, pray, love.
I have friends in Milan but I want to write and, fall in love in Tuscany. No idea why, but it has felt like my souls home!
I'll meet yer at the inn and have a month of lazy hazy summertime muse.
A wonderful birthday musing and epiphanic instant, Dawn. The quality and gift of this moment will stay with you forever, enriching your days. A very happy birthday to you - my son celebrated his 21st on Saturday so I can heartily relate to the spreading of wings! :)) Careful, thoughtful progression as always, x
Dawn, these are the moments that we live for...You deserve so much happiness and peace. I feel good things coming your way this next year.
I wish you peace, love and lightness, on your birthday..
Warmest hugs to you, my dear friend,
Amber

This is excellent Dawn. Really, really good writing. It's funny, I just had a butterfly poem/ thought in my head last night; but more in a metaophorical sense as it relates to poetry. Strange that.
First of all let me wish you a belated but no less wonderful birthday wish to one of the great poets of AD. That being said this soft gentle life story lesson told so perfectly is the reason why you are such a wonderful poet.

How beautiful! This is both wistful and deep, I could feel the open air, the butterfly's brush, the compassion in the summer light ~
Happy birthday to you Dawn, beautiful poetess of peace and wisdom!
Oh...And I was going to say that the sparkle of life is bright in your poetry, too!
Blessings,
Christine
First, may I wish you a very happy birthday Dawn! Secondly, thank you for sharing this precious moment in your life, I could almost feel the Italian sun and the whisper of butterfly wings. So far removed from my particularly cold Aussie winter.
Bless you Dawn,
David
Never saw a blue butterfly nor a poem as captivating as this beauty.
Happy 55th, a woman's true beauty begins to shine after 55. May you have many more happy ones.
