Funny how a smell...a sound can take you back to innocence
The sweet fragrance of honeysuckle
Drifts through the window and
Fills my nostrils with memories
Of summers past
Innocent days playing in the shade
Watching butterflies and
Marveling at the beauty and
grace they possessed
Feeling the cool water as we
ran through the sprinklers
and lying in the grass
As the crickets serenaded me
With their summer song
Oh for those days, so long gone
Fireflies in Mason jars
Sitting on the window sill
Flickering in the warm dark night
Music in the air
As Mother and Daddy
Listen to radio
I hear their soft low laughter
And it makes me feel safe
How I wish all children
Could feel this way
The peace that comes
With the crickets song,
the honeysuckle perfume
and mother and daddy in the next room
