The Wise of It and How Where did you go, when you weren't here with me, you ask me, the one time you noticed my distance and lack of warmth, which doesn't make up for the times you didn't notice I was freezing. What were you doing, because I couldn't see, you ask me, the one time you noticed, I wasn't doing for you in little ways, which doesn't make up for the times, you refused to do for me. Why so quiet, I can barely hear you breathe, you ask me, the one time you noticed, how long I hold back before exhaling, which doesn't make up for the times, you suffocated me. When did it come to this, right before my eyes, you ask of me, the one time you noticed, that we stopped being us, which doesn't make up for the times, we died right in front of you. Who is he, if not me, that can take my place, you ask of me, out of stupidity and fear, which doesn't make up for the times, you didn't care what or who came next. How can this be, I swore this us was it, you ask of me, feeling the loss, which doesn't make up for the times, that I felt the same.

A death toll, indeed, Anne. A good use of repetition to signify the repeated scenes of a relationship coming apart, stitch by stitch.

The first stanza pulls me right in with a chilling grip. Makes one feel stupid almost, as if not to see the things happening right in front of our eyes. Hmmm...been there I guess looking in hind sight... like most.

Which now brings us into the fourth stanza, as I mentioned a bit above creates the black/white image of without. The emptiness of caring no more. A "return to evil those who done evil to us" feeling, though without the hint of "I'm sorry".

The descriptive words "powerful" and "strong" used below only glimps the surface of the wound...I suspect. Great write.

Strong poem with all the right answers to questions we should be always asking each other when we are in a relationship. Time slips away too easily and with it love if not tended to.
