Poem Artwork

perfectly preserved

a cold winter's night,
beneath the full moon,
we lie in forever wait,
stark branches overhead
tangled, knitting the sky.

twigs, black as pitch,
a witch's dark veins,
swollen with ink,
ready to spill free,
bleed into our view.

moisture, palpable,
pending, anxious,
fails to cling midair,
as too heavily laden,
sky gives in, gives way.

frozen tears rain down,
an atmospheric crying jag
splashing rhythmically,
pitter, patter, pit, pit ... pit,
the vessels above pulse.

the sky bleeds out,
staining our jackets,
freezing to our eyelids,
our backsides cryo-solid,
paralyzed to the sod bed.

stilled, hands clasped,
tender the grasp now,
as if a firm squeeze
would surely shatter
what's held between us.

eyes fixed to the sky,
it's as if we are witness
to our own veins' depletion,
our need hemorrhaging free,
saturating the ground below.

frozen, shared preservation,
motionless, fixed to the earth,
adhered by vision into the night,
beyond shivering, succumbing,
i continue to lie with you.

What can I say but excellent. Yes I had to read it, becoming a slacker just from tracking but it's all good!!

When I read the title I thought "That's me - NOT" LOL

Delightful read and very well constructed. Well done.

WOW! Reading this puts a picture of an old black and white movie in my head. Vivid images of an era of no color. Another dark and wonderful story that really reaches the depth of emotion. I like it!

Find this most paradoxical, being a man of little brain, it's dark the ending I was betwixt as if you lay or lie/fib, guess lay, this is great stuff, Tim's right..

Why did this remind me of the Blair Witch Project? For some odd reason while I was reading this I kept having flashes of that movie. Very good write Anne. Lisa

Beautiful expression of romantic love enhanced by the stark network of nude branches above. Now tell us how you were able to post on AD and get single spacing, please? Nothing I've tried has worked.
Best regards,
Leland
