dead girl walking, reborn

i went back to that house,
one long weekend, years ago.
it was empty, remodeled, up for sale, vacant.

my children ran,
in the old backyard,
stomping the ground, awakening my childhood.

i had the urge to hush them,
as i pressed my nose to the window glass,
staring deep, searching the now empty rooms.

my eyes met my eyes,
on the far wall inside the house,
a mirror reporting back, "you are grown!"

returning to the car,
retrieving my camera,
i shot a whole roll of new life, same backyard.

So frightening, yet a need to be filled. Reminds me of an old horror movie, which flashbacks are a big part. History of our growing up can be haunting. (remember the rag doll!)

You can never go back, unless you lose the experience you have now. Sad, I guess. Excellent poem, brought back a lot of memories to me. :(

I have to agree with Lori...I like the structure of the poem and message...my own childhood abode is now over grown with grass and neglect…~DarkBard~
