Scorecard
Yelling, screaming, imploring,
The football fan leaps from his chair.
Silly. Win or lose it’s just a game
Not life or death, a simulation,
And over time, though we remember the score,
That’s not the score that matters.
Goodness, generosity, a smile, and kindness,
We don’t keep track of those.
They count more.
How do people forget?
Dynasties come and go
In sports, on maps, in history.
Our lives are brief, a flash of phosphorescence on a dark sea,
We obsess over nothing,
Nothing that makes the world
Either good or bad,
Just busy.
Time out.
