C I N E L I F E

Curtains open. The film begins.

Hero or villain – which one wins?

They fight within us every day

in how we act or what we say.

Our lives are like a big movie

that’s scripted by ourselves, you see.

Our laughs, our loves are what we choose.

But some mistakes we’d like to lose.

Forgive them all. It’s part of life.

They can be judged as human strife.

Ending credits begin to scroll.

Watch carefully for signs of soul.

Curtains close. The end is here.

Time for critics to boo or cheer.

This cinelife is now all through.

Another film will start anew!

Yes, like Shakespeare pointed out, "All the world is a stage." Excellent!

Always,

Life like the movies is a new adenture everyday. No matter how badly we screw things up one day, we always have a chance to get a new script that works out better the next day, hopefully. Good thing we can have a part 1, part 2 and so on or we would all be out of luck. I love the concept here and the title Betty Jo, combination of life and cinema, Cinelife.

I once asked my roommate from India when we were in grad school together how he knew so much about the United States, only being here about six months. He replied, "From the movies."

I found that rather hard to believe because of the way movies, especially older ones, portrayed life in the United States in a rather idealistic, unnatural way. Although the dramas were true like you have depicted in your poem. I just chalked it up to the intelligence and keen sense of this fellow, much different from some of the other international students. That summer we went to a lot of movies together, many with subtitles from other countries. We remain lifelong friends.

Ahhh . . . This is very good, Betty Jo, and as far as "But some mistakes we’d like to lose." I only this day posted a poem about my mistakes.

Really liked the comparison between us and the big screen, because you brought out how very much we are so alike. Good poem!
