Love is work, we must constantly replenish. Or it becomes like this shopping cart. Empty.

Love was Like a Shopping Cart

In the beginning,

Our love reminded me of a shopping cart, filled to the very top.

We kept putting precious treasures in, as though we couldn’t stop.

It was filled with love, joy, honesty, patience and trust.

It overflowed with understanding, dreams, inspirations, and lust.

Anyone would envy the kind of love we had, for we truly had it all,

We made the meaning of love so beautiful, & trials seem so small.

I guess we took it for granted thinking it would last forever.

Absorbing all the sunny days, like it was the only kind of weather.

Our conversations inspiring, never the time to say all we had to say.

We talked forever with never a lull in the conversation, day after day.

Then suddenly the conversations stop for no rhyme or reason.

I think that’s the beginning of the changing of our season.

We stopped giving to each other, what each other needed most,

We kept our feelings bottled up, and both began to coast.

One by one our treasures disappeared; our joy was the first.

We forgot how to laugh and our bubble began to burst.

Next, came the dreams and communications that we shared.

All things we cherished were slipping away, each feeling scared.

Understanding and patience followed all the others, they left too.

All things gone now, only one thing was left, my love for you.

It stayed alive for a long, long time; I never thought it could die.

With all things taken from it, it has not one tear left to cry.

So don’t let your cart get empty, keep filling it like its new.

Then your love will blossom into something real,

And last your whole life through.

Bonnie,

Clean up in aisle 3 - tears are running down my face! Powerfully inspiring, with a thought provoking message - to keep the cart fully stocked. Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
