Brenden’s Wish

This is a true story about a little boy Brenden, who made a wish with the Make a Wish Foundation. He could have anything he wanted including Disney Land, but this is what he picked.

It’s put into a Christmas theme because I think it’s where it belongs. Other than that, everything else is true .

Brenden’s Wish

A very sick little boy sneaked into the living room to take a peek.

At Santa Claus bringing presents and hanging up a wreath.

Brenden hid quietly behind a huge stuffed chair.

And hoped that Santa wouldn’t see him hiding behind there.

Santa went on with his work putting the presents under the tree.

Brenden saw one big present that his special gift could be.

The others were put under there but Brenden paid no heed.

For it was that one big box that his present had to be.

Santa seemed to take his time and was in no hurry to leave.

He spent much time filling stockings that Brenden could hardly breathe.

The excitement was intoxicating and his breath came in short spurts.

At times he stopped breathing entirely until it actually hurt.

Then when he least expected, Santa disappeared.

Never being aware that Brenden was quite near.

Brenden ran to the huge box and saw his name displayed.

Oh, I love Santa, he just made my Christmas Day.

“Brenden, what are you doing here?” Santa Claus required.

“OH Santa, I know I should be in bed, but I wasn’t really tired.”

“I had to know Santa, if you got my list this year?”

“I had to know if you’d bring it, that’s when Santa shed a tear.”

“Oh yes Brenden, I did get your wish and brought it this very night.”

“I was so touched by your request and you made my spirits bright.”

“Just when I thought all Christmas spirit was truly dead and gone.”

“A little boy named Brenden, sent a message to which I had to respond.”

“You asked me if I could prevent hunger by feeding those with no food.”

“You asked me if it was possible if I gave no presents to you.”

“Well Brenden, I did just that, all the people in the shelters will be fed.”

“There will never be any hunger here; they will have their daily bread.”

“You have touched my heart with the request that you have made.”

“This box is empty; your presents much too big, so on the front lawn it’s laid.”

Santa wheeled Brenden to the front door to see what he had brought.

He couldn’t believe what was in front of him or what his eyes had sought.

There on Brenden’s lawn were truckloads of food piled high to the sky

A sign saying, “For All Those Who are Hungry, “

“From a little boy who just went to be with God on High.”

I heard about Branden's wish, and it spread from his hometown to across the Nation. A beautiful pen to what love and the Christmas Spirit is all about ... now if only it could be like this all year, not just during this season ... well done, Bonnie.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Bonnie, I started crying when I read what Brenden's wish was to Santa and cried to the end. This is a very moving write and as I noted on Felix's poem, it reminds people that Christmas isn't about gifts, but about family and love. ~ Sara

Hi Bonnie,I read and heard this story on CNN about a week or 2 ago.He really touched my heart and he was wise beyond his years. He didn't want toys for christmas, all he wanted was to feed the hunger and feed people that were less fortunate. That is truly the beauty of Christmas. There are alot more important things in this world other than the value of materialism.I am glad his wish came true whether he live to see it or not.take care of yourself.I appreciate you sharing this poem very much

Love and hugs
