Gossip

“If you have nothin to say, say nothin at all.”

That’s what my mamma taught me when I was small.

She loathed and detested gossip in any shape or form.

For it was a very evil thing that released great storms.

She told me my tongue would fall off if I ever defamed,

And talked bad about others and by destroying their name.

So if I came home from school tattle telling about another.

She’d simply say, check your tongue, and turned to my brother.

Boy, it was like a slap in the face and it hurt my heart.

But then I guess I hurt hers when I tore someone apart.

It didn’t take me long to realize it wasn’t accepted here.

So I pretty well kept my mouth shut out of Mamma’s fear.

I learned very quickly to look for the good from inside.

And when I found it I felt joyous with unending pride.

Sometimes it was hard to find for their guards were in place.

So I had to dig a little deeper ‘til I found their loving place.

So many of us have been hurt by gossip which was untrue .

And there was no way of stopping it no matter what we’d do.

I found the best way is ignoring it, to put out the blazing fire.

Hoping you come out of it with humility and lifted higher.

But you choose the path to take when someone hurts you.

Just remember gossip is gossip, there’s nothing you can do.

It dies down in time and as long as you know what’s true .

All the gossip in this world, can’t make dent in you.
