Morning Glory

The squirrels tail furies thick
as he barks obscenities,
even branches quaked in his wake.
Swaying its tail, the tabby cat meows
innocently as I pass by.

A fine mist still clings in air
with a musky scent.
Near by a bulldozer sits cold and wet
in bare dirt that smells like earthworms
dangling on  a fisherman’s hook.

Not paying attention to under-foot
I stepped on a tail of a county mouse
who lost it’s final race.
It now laid split-gut, eyes bulged,
as if stricken with fear, disbelief.
Poor creature, poor creature indeed.

A neighbor waves in envy
as she gets in her car dressed
in her Sunday best, no doubt
on her way to church to pray
for those with less.

Perhaps she will even pray for me
as I continue to walk my daily path
discovering the wonders of life
and enjoying the morning’s aftermath.

Tracey, this is an absolute treasure. The stunning visuals and graphic descriptions draws the reader right into the foray of the morning trek through the forgiving forest, as mankind continues to dismantle Mother Nature’s habitat in the name of progress. Outstanding work my gifted friend. Thank you for sharing your work. Take care and be well.

Very nice, Tracey. I could feel the solitude of the morning as I took in the sights. Terrific imagery (and smell!) Thank you.

You'll never knew what thoughts the morning walks can lead you to, and what you can find on the path. A brand new morning with awakened thoughts.

Love the poem and the photo.
