My "Lady" Valentine

It was Valentines Day,
and Lisa Ann dressed
for the occasion
in a revealing dress
that swirled the flavor
of succulent mangos.

She had a look of disbelief
on the edge of this vacant stairway.
How she came to this place,
would fill a novel
on a dusty shelf
in a small town library.

Unnoticed by passersby
with the exception of a photographer
who gazed though a wide-angle lens
capturing the essence of her,
the childlike woman
who still believed in love.

He wondered, if given a chance,
would she walk away from the existence
daily parades to the corner,
selling pleasures
to secure another day of survival,
the small ill reputes of her life.

Looking downward to fragment legs
he knew the price of love
and the scars it yoked that no one saw.
With the push of a button
he captured a wayward smile,
an unusual glimpse of irony.

Gilded Prisons by Linda Gould

Major League ballplayer Justin Moore is kidnapped from his own ballpark and transported to a foreign land. It might take high-level international negotiations to free him. Or maybe he will take matters into his own hands.
