What Lines

 

We walked the beach and talked for hours


about things that mattered and didn’t.


We stop for a moment and you watched


me draw lines that crossed in the sand, knowing


the tide would wash them away in a matter of hours. 

We even shared a fantasy


of sailing upon the open sea.


Your amusement was to watch me leave the safety


of the old pier that shifted


when the wind blew from no where.


You knew my fears, yet, laughter was all I heard


followed by your reflection of tears.


I smiled, the cocky wrench in me


would not let you laugh long,


jumping in feet 1st you flew off your rear!

Ha! Who laughed now with gleam?


Snickering, my inner voice screamed,


Na-Na-Na-Na, hey-hey-hey, good-bye,


with a splash into the water went your sexy behind.


You of course saw no humor


and with one swift motion I joined you.

Once more, in over my head,


I heard you say, “just play dead.”


You had no idea my feet were made of lead.


I sunk like an apple with out a core


you saw my plight and save my ass once more.


Like two wet rats, we struggled to the shore.

Who said that friends didn’t cross lines?
