Though this poem is somewhat autobiographical, it is not meant to be taken literally. I.e., details are fiction. ~~~~ Thank you so much for

         Don’t Blink

Two things, unrelated
(but isn’t everything?):
My husband announces
he has made an appointment
for a check-up.  Only been
three months, but you know.
I made a list,  he mutters.
Is he embarrassed
about making a list
so he won’t forget?   Or
is it what is on the list?
Doc, I am lucky if I remember
to go to the john.   Doc,
I am having lapses.  Little
gaps,  but. . .don’t tell me
I have Alzheimers.  Say
I am absent-minded.  Okay?
Sorry, guess I forgot
my specs.  Have to ask you
to read. . .

The other thing that happens
is that my screen flickers
as I turn back.  Light-blank-
light.  Black-out lasts
a beat, but there is no denying
it happened.  So.  Store it
on an out-of-mind drive, along
with the knowledge that I
{he-?} will face cold and dark
and still.  Now, Windows is telling
me I have 256 colors.  How
many do I waste?  When
someone has her colors done – his,
whatever – does it include the palette
inside?   Surely not.  We fill easel
after easel with hues and shades
that are all our own.  Fading
only adds.  Not one can be duplicated.
In time and with enough work, each
of us creates a  canvas with a patina
cannot be meant to go to waste.
Give him a good report, Doc.
Write it and I will scan it.
Lucky, still have a screen.

You have a real and honest style of writing, Pea. It's so enjoyable, like sitting across from you and chatting over coffee. I enjoy reading your work.

A superb slice of life Pea, painted in words far more descriptive than any screen. Excellent.

You've said it! Great poem, Peal. Of course... you know... I relate to it completely! :-)

Hea Pea, Helen Hayes said she couldn't remember things very well that happened two years ago, but she had a marvelous memory for anything that happened twenty years ago...that's all that's important--->things that happened when Rit was young...dye me a dream and I'll color you a philosophy--->millions long for immortality who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy afternoon...don't blink, a woman can't become a true artist until she has experienced the "screen." I wish Ray good luck on his check-up...this is a good poem, I didn't want to blink and miss it...art is art, and talent is always talent. A good poem will last forever, a poor one is like a cheap wisecrack...it lasts about as long...be well, Pea...

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
