Cliffhanger, Workshop, Off the Cuff
Your expectation
Walls me in.
All your talent,
All your energy,
All unbound,
Lean toward me
Through invisible bars
Eyes wide,
Arms akimbo,
Tired, but desiring
To hear, to be
Made to see.
At last
To catch an
Inkling.
Why my mouth dries.
Why my heart drums
Jittery jazz and atonal
Tries at hard metal,
Unable to
Find the rhythm
In my pitiful supply
Of images
From trunks of
Attic grimed metaphors.
Of sounds memorized
Until they are not.
Of flashes
Not terribly fresh.
Chiaroscuroed
Etchings and Picassoesque
Harlequins
Sporting out-of-kilter checks
Above coy pointed slippers
And mirror distorted hats.
unique words or novel metaphors are not required to carry the message of the heart -- it is the emotion we flex with each stroke of the pen that endears the work to the reader with its candor --this is quite a wonderful piece of work Phyllis -- I certainly enjoyed reading it -- peace and love to you -- Jon Michael
