This is a revision of fluff I entered into a contest centering on a theme about the wisdom (or not) of going full-steam-ahead. Damn the torpedoes! Open the throttles! Fly so fast, you burst into flames!! Art, like fire, destroys and creates. Or am I just looking for an excuse to stay up all night? So peaceful. Hear the Muse whisper.
Then again, it's the perfect time for fireworks.

“Stop burning the candle at both ends!”
Sage advice if you hope to live
To see a hundred candles set ablaze
Atop a cake you're too bored to eat.
“Don’t be a night owl! You will get circles
Under your eyes. Turn down that flame
And get yourself in bed. Won’t dream,
But you will get rest.” And that is all.
“I’m a phoenix!!” my mother used to shout.
“I’m a phoenix!!” Light burned day and night,
Not just in her eyes. “Always serve as a bad
Example!” she crowed, and she let ‘er rip.
The albatross never wound up with its tail
On fire. Too busy waiting for light to take off. Dodo bird didn’t burn to death, it let go.
Make me an eagle into pyromania!
Want to be fire red. Blue, purple, gold.
Want to warm hands and light eyes.
Give off sparks that make andirons glow.
Maybe I’ll be a comet. Who knows?

This has the kind of carefree that comes with being open to new things or a beginning. I readily admit to being the owl with the dark circles. I like the creative symbolism in this poem.

Seems we do have much in common burning that candle at both ends. Sleep who needs it, there is just too much living to do and I do enjoy taking it all in, wondering writing...
I love this Pea, but I am a night owl and I do burn it from both ends...I shall heed your sage advice..thank you, you rock!
