There is a river that flows by my window
And the tears that fall from my eyes with it compete
I often wonder which one will be
The one that dries up the first
***
How long will these tears go on flowing
Like a river flowing into the ocean
With one slight difference
My tears its ocean cannot be reached
***
I asked the moon what should I do
She seemed a perfect one to pose that question to
She bowed her head and with so sadder eyes I have ever seen
She kissed my cheek and shook her head
Such a question many times I have been asked
But ne’er an answer to me did reveal
And at her response
As if on cueThe tears again begin to flow
The Sun I said you are warm and bright
Can you dry up these weeping eyes
When all of a sudden from out of thin air
Came a cloud as dark as night.
The sun face I could no longer see
So his answer I could not retrieve
And the tears continue to flow
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
