Being a child of eight or so
I always wondered
If bodies were buried...
By bushes surrounding
The park
Where I and my friends
Played-
We would be doing the "Untouchables,"
And one friend said,
"I bet bodies are buried here"-
One day we quit playing
In those bushes,
It became to creepy...
I don't recall Halloween ever being scary. We never dressed up to go trick-or-treating. All the tricks in the neighborhood were done by teenagers and not very malicious.
Come to think of it, as long as humans have occupied the North American Continent, almost every inch of ground may have been a burial site over that length of time. If you consider animals, the very soil those bushes grew in, is made up of the remains of thousands of animals.
