The Untainted

With so many sentient gifts ignored or abused, how dangerously close might the resultant evolutionary reality be?

Poem Artwork
The Untainted
by Odin Roark

New tide’s blinking
Sending flotsam drifting shoreward
Where water depth changed by oceans’ swallow
Show decaying pylons
Once supporting boardwalk simplicity

Sun worshipers urge summer heat
To darken lathered skin
As abandoned Coppertone bottle
Joins ancient water’s perpetual visits
Of ebb and tide

Gull-feathered patience gliding above
Gazes at innocent children molding sand castles
Where Triscuit-step-paths
Meet up to draw-bridge Wasa crackers
Held secure by breadstick timbers
Cemented with sea weed’s sticky sand

Bronze effigies awash in gull-white convenience
History’s commemorative life lost on tempest waves
Goes unnoticed as it overlooks
The coming and going of storybook sand castles

Adults-in-progress

Such is entitlement’s escape-to-the-sun
Where pleasure-obsessed addiction
Remains ensconced in seaside delusion
Holding to beach days past
When beer-enhanced-love once celebrated
Slipped to Perrier-Jouët pretense

Self-deception
Imbibed
Discarded
Becoming tomorrow’s human jetsam
Drifting aimlessly below
Origin’s forever exhalation
Updrafts of salty air
Seeking untainted conscious life
Somewhere

Anywhere

A day at the beach with too many question marks. Are the ignored bronze effigies icons of a more civilized/refined era or surfers waxing their boards? And how can perpetuating a more youthful state of mind be considered less than ideal? Less the discarded suntan oil bottle and perhaps a few empty cracker boxes, the scene appears relatively benign. Perhaps this metaphoric water is a bit too deep for me. Shouldn't consternation at the seashore be an oxymoron?

~Odin~
Splendor in the updrafts of salty air. Three days past
ocean waves...azure seas..sand castles giggles as the
waves roll in...playing on the beach with our son.
Pristine at one time!!

Yes, we are but flotsam in the sea of life. Adults-in-progress. Slipping into pretense rather than reality. Reality is something we face with dread, so we'd rather engage in conspicuous consumption to soothe our souls. The ocean will always dilute our trash, won't it?

Can't write all I want on this one right now, Odin... I'll add more later... but this is a righteous write, brother.
