Bankrupt Inner Lives

Not to be judgmental, but it is indeed a gift to realize nature’s purpose transcends a Rodeo Drive mindset.

Poem Artwork
Bankrupt Inner Lives
by Odin Roark

At night
The vacuous feel only their emptiness
Lining up in the dark
Beside stanchions of velvet rope
As condor sentries lift anchor-like hooks

Time’s soulless theme park is open

Clamorous the surge

The decay of centuries past
Swirl their biting dust storms
Vying for another chance
Surging through the dervish-like desperation
A continued vacillate turnover of todays
Crowding the ceremonial skin shedding
Like a pit of serpents struggling to dislodge
The torn
Lifeless
Parasitic past
Trusting the new will provide survival

As light breaks such a dawn

The ravaged and bruised spineless
Merge upon barren landscapes
Raven guides screech welcoming echoes
As undulating mirages of immortality
Invade their delusions of control
Lulling them into drug-like satisfaction

Such continues the stratagem
A parched enigma forever waiting
Another group of self-deceivers
Endlessly visiting their
Inner life wasteland

Clueless

We are battery sucking drones plugging in our mind traps. It's the ultimate double feature horror film. Enjoyed every line in this.

About 80% of the population... any population. Great fodder for B movies and Saturday Night Live Skits. The most inane have their own reality shows.

If one could realize the emptiness inside and wanted to change that. That is the time to become what one wishes. No one gets wise by sitting on their behinds reading. No one gets life by watching reality crap on TV. Wisdom comes with experience and learning from it. You don't learn from it, then guess what, you repeat it again and again until one's dumb butt gets it. Like me. Been there, done that. Don't like repeating anymore. I think I went off track.

I've wondered for a long time about this zombie/vampire craze, now viral and ubiquitous ... where did it come from? Why does it seem to embody our most basic fears. Are they modern harpies and trolls? Or, as you so vividly write, only the vacuous seeking to fill themselves with meaning. Obviously you are not one of them ... self filling and excellent.

Far too many self-deceivers wandering the wasteland today.

I'm with Michael's allusive comment, but this den of vipers could not find a more venomous versifier (and I mean that in with the best of all possible connotations)... your trenchant in your vituperation, voluble in your trounce of terminal self-absorption, myopia and a kind of Malibu malaise that is driven by what you call a Rodeo Drive solipsism that renders an individualistic inertia to the paralysis of personality... I am always impressed with your acumen, your acerbic artistry and your clever wordplay... constantly topping yourself with a seemingly bottomless array of talented verses... excellent!
