Teflon Impotence

With so many choices to latch onto, why do so many merely slide about?

Poem Artwork
Teflon Impotence
by Odin Roark

Oh how the slippery
Would have us slide
Whether upon forgettable Britney
Or a New Jersey Housewife

Late night infomercials
Slow bake our minds into
Wannabe prime time pop tarts ourselves
Glissading from one slick surface to the next
Masturbating our quick droolatory servings

How similar our daytime experience
Sliding across the screen-pundit talk
Non-stick education
Shaking the slimy paw of
El slicko bankers
Their sleight of hand finesse
So seductive

Such happens

Reducing our existence
To a Teflon life
Where unlike its scientific understanding
Long-chain polymer
Fluorocarbon plastic properties
Have integrity
Creating abilities to resist the drag of intrusion
Almost a well as gold and platinum

We skid not into a better life
But merely maneuver
Through each day’s slippery slope
Unknowingly needing
Some lasting nourishment

You know
That old fashioned way
Willing to suffer the unwanted sticking
In order to live
Rather than
Merely exist
As a slip and slide convenience

For others

What is the real meaning of "Really Living Life" anyway. After my son died, "Carla get out, live life", Um, okay????? After a year or so, am I not living by traveling, doing things I love. But when a part of that love is being alone, writing, enjoying music, reading, somehow I'm no longer living life, I am merely existing? WTF....Do I have to be jumping up and down laughing hysterically smiling continuously to appear to be LIVING LIFE? As my 9 year old grandson would say, "Seriously?" yeah, I'm a young granny, I'm 48 who feels like I've lived 200 years.

I'm reminded of Paul Simon's words, "slip sliding away…"

I guess most people are stuck in a routine that lets you slide further away from the reality of life every day. Some will come upon a rude awakening.

It's also known as serving up huge amounts of propaganda that is also lapped up by those on the receiving end of that long teflon shaft. I don't know if any droolatory drippings stick to that stick. You've added quite a few new words to the lexicon on this subject.

In February 2009 I gave up cable. I have used my television to watch probably not more than twenty movies on DVD since that time. I have not missed the silliness that is television. I get my news, and I keep up with world affairs, on the Internet. If more people would do what I did the quality of programming would rise to a different standard. Follywood does not appeal to me anymore.
